Confronting Existential Dread in the Age of AI

The Algorithms Know Everything (Except How to Die)

We are living in the age of the answer. With a click, AI can write our emails, diagnose our symptoms, and predict the weather. We are drowning in data and certainty.

And yet, I am seeing a rise in Existential Dread among my clients.

Why? Because technology creates an illusion of control, but deep down, our bodies know the truth: We are organic, impermanent beings, and no algorithm can solve the problem of death.

The Friction of Being Human

The more the world becomes digital, optimised, and artificial, the more alien our own mortality feels. We feel pressure to be as productive as machines. We fear becoming obsolete, particularly when we see how AI has the potential to (and already is) outperforming human beings in some of the most advanced technical jobs. We wonder, What is the point of me?

This is modern existential dread. It is the friction between our infinite technology and our finite bodies.

The Antidote is Biology

When the digital world feels overwhelming, the answer is not to disconnect (which is impossible), but to re-inhabit your animal body.

  • AI cannot feel the cold wind on its face.

  • AI cannot grieve a loss.

  • AI cannot experience the sublime awe of a thunderstorm.

These "inefficient" human experiences are your anchor. In my practice, we work on grounding you back into the sensory reality of the present moment. The future may be uncertain and rapid, but your breath, right now, is real. The unknown is not a glitch in the system; it is the very essence of being alive.
