A Story of Endings: A Documentary About Death Doulas in Victoria

Here's a glimpse of me and my story in A Story of Endings, where I talk about my connection with my ancestors.

How do we talk about death—and how can we prepare for it with more honesty and care?

A Story of Endings is a powerful feature-length documentary directed and self-produced by filmmaker Lucy Pijnenburg. The film follows the work of four death doulas across Victoria, each supporting their communities as they navigate all things death and grief.

Through their stories, the documentary opens conversations about advance care planning, our fears of death, the role of community, and the importance of recognising death as a natural part of life. Rather than shying away from the subject, A Story of Endings shows how facing mortality directly can create deeper meaning in how we live.

I am honoured to be one of the doulas featured in the film. It is both moving and affirming to see the work of death doulas represented on screen, highlighting the many ways we walk alongside people in their most vulnerable moments.

Why this film matters

In a culture that often avoids conversations about death, A Story of Endings offers an invitation to do the opposite: to speak, share, and reflect. By amplifying the voices of death doulas across Victoria, the film helps normalise end-of-life care discussions and makes space for the honesty, vulnerability, and compassion that these conversations can bring.
